Korea Aerospace and defence exhibition 2005 21-10 Seoul (Friday)
After a long and boring flight in one of the old 747 Combi of the KLM we arrived at Incheon airport.
From there it was straight on to the bus terminals in the centre of Seoul to park our luggage and on the “Korea Aerospace and defence exhibition 2005”.
This was held at Seongnam Airbase, so an opportunity for some extra aircraft was there.
A good thing about this air show is you can do it all with the bus shuttle from the airport and the metro, so no need to get a rental car and to drive trough Seoul. With the participation of approximately 200 companies of the aerospace and
defence industries from 22 countries around the world, it was expected to be interesting air show.
On the static site of the air show where the two first F-15K displayed, these aircraft where technically still owned by the Boeing Company and where transferred to the ROK Air Force at the last day of the show. An other aircraft of interest
was the second Australian wedge tail, being on display to maybe fulfill the requirement of the sensor aircraft for the ROK Air Force.
The remainder of the static was filled with updated aircrafts and defence industry equipment including ROK Air Force F-16, F-4E and KT-1 and helicopters. On the American site where the F-16C, AH-64,A-10A and P-3.
Missing on the static was the T-50 Golden Eagle, only the factory model was taking part in the flight display. |

During the Public days there would be a display program with the Black Eagle Team of ROK Air Force preformed, on the trading days the flying program consisted of a display
from T-50, F-16, KT-1, F-15C, U-2, AND B-1B in a period of half a our. Since we arrived at 13:00 we had just mist the flying program and we where left with a private SU-31 performing a flight show.
In comparisons to the previous shows at Seoul the amount of attainders was very limited. In previous years most of the types flown by the ROK Air Force where present in contrast to this year. And with the ROK Air Force not in search of a
new type there where no foreign contenders present.
Taking pictures of the operational aircraft was possible, but it looked like the guards did not appreciate it. This gave us some extra transport aircraft.
With the light getting on the wrong site of the runway and no new aircraft departing from the operational site of the base we decided to call it a day. We would be back for the half our display the next day.
Concluding it was a show that was nice fore a first time visitor to South Korea, but compared to previous shows the amount of airplanes was very limited and the air show almost none existent.
After the show it was on to our hotel in the centre of town, where we spent some time to have a look around and get a good mail in one of the many restaurants. |
