Gilze Rijen June 1984,
The Tactical Air Meet of 1984 was held at Gilze-Rijen air force base in The Netherlands (June 22 - July 4).The number of different aircraft
types represented at the TAM was overwhelming. At that time we where still students so there was plenty of time to go and visit Gilze-Rijen air force base
At our first visit by train we arrived at the station and to our amazement there where busses of the air force at the station to take you to
the air base. So no questions ask we went on the bus, at arrival most of use found out that according to the officer at the reception point we should have been on these busses. So after a stay of 5 minutes at the air base 95 % of the
passengers where of the air base including us.
In the period of the TAM we made several visits to Gilze-Rijen and saw movements
on a scale we haven’t seen al lot of after that in Holland
The airbase's location makes photographing at close range with the correct wind awesome.
The main runway begins just a few feet from a main road. When a plane comes in for landing, the traffic lights turn to red and you'll just
have to give way to the incoming airplane and the runway access point are only a few meter from the road.
The pictures are of a grainy quality it was still 1984 so film emulsion was not up to today's standards and being a student made u spent
more money on other things than on photo equipment and expensive films.
