F21 Flygmuseum at
Lulea
During a vacation trip to the Nordkapp we visited this aviation museum
with is located just outside the main gate off the Norrbotten Wing, F 21
in Lulea.
At the time of our visit it was officially closed, bud luckily we where
greeted by a friendly former Saab 32 Lancen pilot, on of the many
volunteers maintaining the museum, who let us in for a tour.
At the main chopping centre near Lulea this Saab 37
Viggen an be found.

The indoor part of the museum shows the history of the wing in more a
less a ten-year intervals, next to the indoor display equipment is
displayed that was used on a daily base like fire engines and radar
aquipment.
The museum also has four special exhibitions, one on "F 19 - the
Swedish Voluntary Airplane in Finland" - action during the winter war
1939-40, one on "Air Operations Balchen", with American airplanes from
Kallax, exiled northern Norway through air transport of equipment, one
About "Emergencies and Accidents in Norrbotten during World War II
1939-1945" and one on "Cold War"
P-51 44-72112 Swedish Air Force number 26084 is now on
display at Flygmuseet F21, Luleå.
After its wreckage was salvaged from a moor near Vidsel in
1998 following a lengthy restoration.

A recent addition to the museum is a
aircraft hall behind the museum where they show the oldest aircrafts in
the collection.
Consisting of a S 26 Mustang, J 28 Vampire and S 29 barrel all
reconnaissance aircraft . Next to the Mustang is a small photo
exhibition of the renovation of this aircraft, giving a look at the work
it took to get is to this stage.
A few Swedish Saab 37 Viggens trainers
were refurbished and converted into SK37E, Electronic
Warfare Viggen. All SK37E were stationed at F4 until 2004,
when they were transferred to F21 Wing to fly along the
recce version AJSF37 during Viggens last operational year in
2005.

In the area in and around Lulea some more displayed aircraft can found, at the airport
of Lulea a Saab 29 Tunan and a Saab 35 Draken are displayed and at the
former army air base in Boden a AB-204 Hkp-3C is displayed at the former gate.
Next to is is the new army museum witch should house a other
Hkp-3C
and Hpk-6A Jetranger but it was closed at the time we visited it.
This former gate guard a AB-204B local designation Hkp3C
is still standing at the old army base at Boden near Lulea.
